Bank Employees Support Local Soup Kitchen
First National Bank Serves Tunkhannock Community

Tunkhannock, PA – November 22, 2011 - As part of an ongoing commitment to support the Tunkhannock community, employees from First National Bank of Pennsylvania were recently on hand to prepare and serve meals at Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen, located in downtown Tunkhannock.

Janice Shaffer, director and founder of Seven Loaves, points out that the soup kitchen has no affiliation and receives no government funds. “We are a completely volunteer organization, and we rely on the help of people in the community like the team from First National Bank,” notes Shaffer. “I worked right alongside the volunteers from the bank, and they were so friendly and enjoyable. That kindness sometimes matters more than food for those families who are experiencing difficult times.”

Debra Gay, Manager of First National Bank’s Tunkhannock Office, says the experience was rewarding. “Volunteering at Seven Loaves was very meaningful, both personally and professionally. We like to get out in the community on behalf of First National Bank because it lets people know that we’re here to serve our neighbors, and that we’re very committed to our community.”

Seven Loaves serves as a buffer for individuals and families who are struggling financially, and there are no qualifications to receive a meal. According to Shaffer, more than 350 individuals now support the work of Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen as volunteers. Anyone who wants to volunteer can visit the organization’s website at sevenloaveskitchen.org.
