All businesses are vulnerable to fraud, yet the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners says that small businesses have the highest median losses, primarily because they employ fewer controls. You can combat fraud and the related loss by creating a true culture of risk management.

Skilled fraudsters are subtle in their methods, so it's a good idea to review behaviors that will help protect the integrity of your information and that of your clients.

Introduce and reinforce the following internal controls and behaviors on a regular basis:
Always adhere to password confidentiality.

Always delete suspicious emails - unread.

Always copy and paste links into your web browser instead of opening them directly in the body of an email.

Always shred documents containing personal or financial information.

Always ignore requests for bank account details and passwords.
